This walk can be simply a nice stroll
with fabulous views or you can enjoy a
good work out by climbing the upper
track and see postcard views of Palm
Beach at Tumgun Lookout...
This area is a birdwatchers paradise, it’s quiet
and secluded. Wearing the correct clothing is
important, and make sure you take insect
repellent (it is the wetlands after all!)
Start at
Tallebudgera creek
foreshore walk east along the
pathway, passed Neptune surf
Club and the Leisure centre.
Here you will come to a fork in
the path, follow the pathway
east along the creek and walk to
the end of the rock wall, you
won’t be disappointed with the
view!
Take some fabulous shots of
Beautiful Burleigh Headland and
Surfers Paradise
Turn right and walk along the
concrete pathway, past
Tallebudgera
Surf Life Saving
Club, were you could stop for a
quick swim between the flags or
maybe another option is a spot
of breakfast or perhaps lunch
and a glass of wine. Continue
along this pathway onto a grassy
area and a tarred road right up
to 23rd Avenue from
here on you are back to the
beach.
Burleigh Headland National Park
is 27.6 hectres of pristine
eucalypt forest and pandanus
groves, There is an upper track
where the beautiful views of
Palm Beach and surrounding areas
peep out from amongst the rain
forest and towards the top
of the upper track you are
confronted with a spectacular
view of the southern end of the
Gold Coast. The upper track
provides a good workout for
those who want to keep fit!
This walk is best taken early in
the day during the summer
months.
Head from Burleigh Head
Information Centre on the Gold
Coast Hwy, across the road to
Ikkina Street (Koala Park)
Option 1; You
can take a left and follow the
road around to Awoonga Ave
(runs into Elanora Drive) and
enjoy the scenic route along
Tallebudgera Creek.
Option 2; Keep
going straight till you arrive
at Elanora Drive. Following
Elanora Drive to your right till
you come to Pindari, take a left
on Pindari and following the
street around it's a bit of a
climb but worth it. This street
now becomes Ocean Parade.
The road curves around to reveal
on your left a sign,
'Tallebudgera Creek conservation
Park' if you come to Vantage
Point Drive you have gone too
far! ( I had trouble seeing the
entrance while driving)
This is a scenic walk which
changes from stunning views of
Tallebudgera Creek revealing
deserted sand islands to dense
mangroves. At some stages of the
walk you could easily conclude
you were in a remote paradise
that only you knew about.
The walk finishes at Fleays
Wildlife Park a day out on it's
own.
Approximately 40minutes
depending on your pace.
(remember you have to walk
back). Give yourself an easy
1½hour round trip.
There is limited parking near
the entrance to the park,
however parking is an issue if
you decide to drive to the
entrance of the park....
Wherever
you are in
Palm Beach
you are not far from the beach, just
head for the Gold Coast Hwy and there
just a few metres away usually in
sight…..the water!
