What is a walking track anyway? Does it have to be recognised as an
official walk? Well we are going to create one. This walking track will
start on the beachfront at Coolangatta and finish on a high plateau in
New South Wales and be known as the Razorback Lookout Walking
Route/Track.
This walking route will test your fitness
level!
The Walking route is along concrete paths and sealed roads, you have to
be fairly fit, there is a hill to climb which will test your
fitness level. The route slowly climbs and finishes at Razorback Lookout
or officially the correct name is 'Tom Beatson Outlook'. So if you are in
to keeping fit you can use this Gold Coast walking route to improve your overall fitness and enjoy
a fabulous location to cool down.
If you are a runner a word of warning!
Keep in mind all those who walk for pleasure, we
frequently stop to take note of our surroundings. Maybe take some photographs,
or just stop and stare at an insignificant plant. And because we may
be in another sphere we can quickly get startled. So if you come up
rapidly behind us we may not see or hear you. (We are listening to our
MP3 player called ambience)
Plot your own walking route to
Razorback Lookout
If you check the Google map below the 3D
earth option (you might have to download the software on your computer)
you will see the whole area clearly. Whether you are holidaying on the
Gold Coast or in Tweed Heads or maybe you are a local, plot your own
walking route to this lookout. This walking route starts from Marine Parade,
Green Mount Beach carpark. However you can easily change the route and
start from Tweed Heads.
It will take you approximately 30 minutes depending on
your pace, an overall trip of around one hour. Don’t
forget to allow time for enjoying that 360 degree view at the Lookout.
This route is approximately 2.1 km one way based on the map and according to
'Mr. Google'.
The Queensland Sun can get very fierce in the warmer
months so don’t forget your hat, sunscreen, bottle of water and
appropriate walking footwear?
Walking around Razorback Lookout you have
panoramic views of Tweed Heads and the Gold Coast Hinterland, including
Mount Warning truly a photographer’s delight!
So when are you going to walk this route?
Quick Directions
Start at
Marine Parade beach front, walk up McDonald Street, cross the road
passed the roundabout. (Be careful take the pedestrian crossing)
Take Dixon Street; from here it’s a straight line, keep walking till
you reach the next roundabout.
The Queensland New South Wales border runs straight through this
roundabout, during the summer months you can lose or gain an hour
depending which side of the roundabout you stand on.
From here take Razorback Road, (it’s a little confusing at this spot
take the Charles Street exit) walk a short distance and then there
will be a sharp right off Charles Street.
You now know why it’s called Razorback!
Climb the hill, ready for
that well earned rest? Just keeping going a little further, up the
concrete ramp and stretch out on the cool green grass of Tom Beatson
Outlook ( Razorback) for a well earned rest!
