We sometimes forget about the spectacular
Lookouts and Gold Coast scenic drives we have at our fingers tips. The Gold Coast
hinterland is easily accessed from the Palm Beach - Currumbin region. Living in
paradise can dull our perception of just how fabulous this location
really is, beautiful Currumbin Valley is only minutes away.
Visitors, Tourist, Holiday Makers, Day Tripper come to this
wonderful stretch of Coastline and the Gold Coast Hinterland from not
only interstate or Brisbane but from all over the planet to enjoy our
Gold Coast drives and walks.
Let's
become a tourist for a day and take a Gold Coast scenic drive into the
Gold Coast hinterland.
Our Gold Coast scenic drive will take us
to route 98 to Currumbin Valley and then to Arthur Freemans Lookout
Tomewin.
How to get to Arthur Freeman Lookout
If you are holidaying along the Coastal strip head for Currumbin and then Currumbin Creek road. There are
a few different ways of getting to this location; however the most
direct and easiest route to follow if you are not a local is via the
Gold Coast Hwy and head to
Palm Beach Parklands.
1. Turn
off at the traffic lights onto Thrower Drive; continue through the odd
shaped roundabout past Palm Beach – Currumbin High School on your left
and take the Currumbin Beach turn off. (The first exit off the
roundabout) The drive is approximately 19 Km from this point, around
30min drive one way.
2.
Cross Thrower Bridge (it’s hard to believe this route was the original
Gold Coast Hwy).
3.
Turn right at the traffic lights, this is Duringan
Street. it will change to
Currumbin Creek Road. If you turned left you will be heading east for
Currumbin Beach a quick detour is ok, but remember to turn around and
head back to the lights and straight across to Duringan Street and then Currumbin Creek Road.
Watch for the Tomewin Mountain Road
turn off…
4.
Follow the road passed Currumbin RSL and
through the Currumbin Industrial estate.
5.
Watch out for Tomewin
Mountain Road. Here you make a sharp left turn and start to climb. Read

6. Be careful at this point if you are driving too
fast you might miss the lookout you have to turn right to access the
lookout ...be wary of traffic travelling behind you. Read more about

A short video of what you will
see at Arthur Freeman Lookout
Arthur Freeman Lookout has a colourful history
this is the site of the 'banana
flying fox', bananas were hauled up from the slopes below.
While standing looking at the escarpment looming before you think of
those workers dragging those heavy loads of bananas up the mountain slopes with the
summer heat bearing down. Arthur Freeman was a banana pioneer of early
twenties.
